HOKA was founded in the French Alps, when some pioneering trail runners wanted to design a shoe that made downhill running easier. Inspired by the geometries of gravity sports equipment, like skis and mountain bikes, they tinkered with designs until the first HOKA prototype was developed. That first oversized midsole sent shock waves through the running industry, which at the time was in the throes of the minimalist movement. Yet slowly but surely—and then not so slowly—the brand gained traction with consumers who enjoyed the enhanced cushion and uniquely smooth ride the shoes provided. Today, HOKA continues to put its most innovative foot forward in developing bold and unexpected solutions for world champions, taste makers and everyday athletes.
